Umbria is famous as the land of saints, many great men have seen the light in this area and the fame of their actions was soon spread throughout the world: from St. Francis of Assisi, by St. Benedict of Norcia to St. Rita of Cascia.
Participating in this package you will visit Assisi, the native land of St. Francis and Norcia and the native land of St. Benedict.
You’ll also visit the famous Gothic cathedral in Orvieto. Orvieto is built on top of a plateau of tufo stone, which also provided the raw material for the town’s buildings, including the massive Duomo.
Orvieto’s cathedral, the Duomo, is considered one of the most beautiful in Italy and it is entirely decorated by a gold mosaic, it is impressive!
Reservations are on request for any day, year round, based upon availability, for a minimum of two people.

Day by Day Itinerary of the Holiday

 

  • Day 1 – Arrive in Perugia
    Arrival at the country farm “La volpe e l’uva” (Perugia, Central Italy, Umbria, near Tuscany). Check-in your apartment at 4:00pm.
  • Day 2 – Cooking + Assisi Tour
    Morning: Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
    Afternoon:  You will visit the mystical city of Assisi, a beautiful medieval town based on Mount Subasio, overlooking a peaceful Umbrian landscape. The tour will allow to get to know the main landmarks where st. Francis lived. You can see the st. Francis Basilica whose superior walls were frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue. You will also visit the Eremo delle carceri, one of the oldest Franciscan convents. Professional guide in the excursion.
  • Day 3 – Cooking + Orvieto Tour
    Morning:Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
    Afternoon: You will visit the town Orvieto, a this spectacular laid on top of a huge tufa rock. You will visit one of the italian wonders: the mighty cathedral and in there a sample of Renaissance masterpiece, St Brizio Chapel frescoed by Beato Angelico and Luca Signorelli.   • Day 4 – Cooking + Gubbio Tour
    Morning:Hands-on cooking class starts around 10:00am. You will prepare a four course lunch that you will eat at the end of the class, accompanied by our wines.
    Afternoon: Guided visit to the city of Gubbio. Dante Alighieri describes  the beauty of Gubbio in one of the canti of the Paradiso. The area is made even more precious by the Topino stream and by the hill named after the town’s patron saint, St. Ubaldo. The locality practically grips onto the rocks of mount Ingino, from which one can enjoy breath-taking views. In the city centre, worthy of a visit are the Roman Theatre, the church of St. Francis, located where there once was the palace (or fondaco) of the Spadalonga family, or alternatively also the Palace of the Consuls or the coeval Palace of the Podestà. Today, Gubbio is famous not just for its cultural richness and beautiful landscape, but also for having offered the backdrop to the Italian TV series Don Matteo. Its narrow alleyways and elegant urban tapestry fascinate and draw many visitors each year.
